Commercial Tire Tips

At Thompson Tire & Retread, we want to help our customers maximize their tire purchase. To get the best performance and longest life from your commercial tires, follow these tips.

Commercial Truck Tire Tips

  • Check Your Tire Pressure: When it comes to tire care on any vehicle, keeping your tires at the correct pressure level is important. For fleets and trucks operating frequently, this is especially important since tire pressure has an effect on fuel economy as well as safety and tire durability. By keeping your tires at the correct levels, you can decrease the risk of punctures and reduce operation costs in fuel.
  • Have a Tire Maintenance Plan: Tires are one of the biggest expenses for fleets. To ensure the safe performance of all tires and reduce the risk of downtime caused by road hazards or tire blow outs, create a maintenance and replacement plan that includes tire inspections by service centers and drivers. Consider incorporating retread tires into your operation costs.
  • Know When to Retread (Pull Points): Retread tires cost less than new tires and provide like-new performance when performed by a quality retreader. To make the most out of tires with retreadable casings, it's important to know when the tire should be brought in for retreading. This is known as the "pull point." The government mandated rule is to pull steer tires at 4/32nds remaining tread depth and drive/trailer tries at 2/32nds. The point of the pull point is to maximize the number of times you can send the casing through the retread process. Depending on your application, you may choose to pull the tire sooner than required.
