There is plenty of maintenance tips you should do annually during the hot summer months to make sure you do not cause damage to your vehicles. A checklist is a wonderful way to keep track of everything you should keep an eye on when it comes to keeping your vehicle in the best condition.

  • Engine Cooling System. Check your antifreeze concentration levels to make sure that the antifreeze-to-water ratio is correct. Make sure your cooling ratio is not off. If your ratio for cooling is off it may cause overheating, not operate properly, or may fail. Along with if the ends of your coolant hoses feel spongey that means that it needs to be replaced right away. All your fluids have a usable life span that should be followed and changed when needed. Make a service request on our Thompson website so we can help figure out what needs to be repaired for your vehicle in an efficient timely manner.
  • Air Conditioner. One of the worst feelings is coming from the outside intense heat into an even hotter vehicle. Make sure that your A/C is running correctly if you hear a sound from the blow motor that means it is time to replace it to keep you nice and cool for the summer.
  • Batteries. Summer heat causes corrosion to your batteries which can lead to lower voltage, or the battery may die. Make sure to examine the battery for any corrosion, cracks, or other damage.
  • Belts and Hoses. Intense heat causes stronger vibrations to cables causing them to crack and have seepage so make sure to inspect your belts. If you do not feel comfortable doing any inspection on your vehicle, we have several great services at Thompson we provide. Our highly skilled technicians have several years of experience to back them up on in the great work they do for our company.
  • Tires.  Summer tire maintenance is a super important task to check or get inspected. The scorching summer heat can cause the rubber to break down faster. If tread depth is low and uneven wearing appears you could potentially blow a tire on the road. This could not only cause major damage to your vehicle but easily could cause an accident on the road.
